PARKFLYER
Before I moved to Australia I decided to minimize the number of planes to carry to the other side of the world. As this was not an easy desicion I had no other choice than to "fly" one of my small planes to the wheelie bin...It was a small parkflyer I constructed some years ago to enable real-time "on-board" video capturing. (Camflight project). The plane, that had a 1 mtr wingspan, had it's scarves over the years and I always wanted to design and construct a modelplane using CAD tools. This project gives more details of the design and construction.
The selected airfoil for this design is a NACA-2410 profile. I used both profiles for the root-rib and the tip-rib.
After printing these airfoils a small JIG is created to make the final ribs out of balsa wood for the main wing. The pictures below show the steps to create such a JIG. A carrier is chosen of 4x4mm for the ribs. The last picture shows a rib on this carrier. When this JIG is ready, it is relatively easy to make the other ribs. But first a drawing has to be made to determine the spacing for each rib. Therefore I used a CAD tool to construct the mainwing. Click here for a 1:1 drawing of the ribs
